White Paper: The Folklore of Finance

White Paper: Executive Summary

The Center for Applied Research’s latest whitepaper is centered on one pressing question – what does true success look like? The Center found that ironically, the pursuit of investment success in the industry has given rise to its biggest impediment: the “Folklore of Finance”. This folklore reflects the shared beliefs, rooted in human bias, that govern both investment professionals’ and investors’ behaviors. The Center recommends that the industry needs to generate a new folklore that reinforces the values necessary to achieve true success for the industry which ultimately translates to true success for investors.

This study was an 18 month endeavor based on a survey of 3,700 participants across 19 countries globally in addition to 200 interviews with industry executives and empirical research.
