This talk draws on the experience of two decades as a practicing economist.

The goal is to share with the audience the handful of ideas that the presenter has found to be most helpful in understanding economies and financial markets. Topics include the US and global business cycles, inflation, stock markets, investing and diversification, wealth creation and investor sentiment (including implications for international investors), the signal extraction problem, and the underlying economics of policy debates. Every attempt will be made to optimize the trade-off between shelf-life and the one hand, and timeliness of insights on the other
