Tom joined Wexler | Walker in 2004 from the office of Former Congressman Todd Akin (R-MO) where he served as Legislative Assistant. In that role, Tom served as chief advisor for Akin on telecommunications, international relations and social policy directives.

Capital Alpha Partners

Charles Gabriel is a thirty-two year veteran of political forecasting for institutional investors and President of Capital Alpha. In addition to election risk and overall policy-related investment strategy, he specializes in trends and developments impacting the mortgage, specialty finance, and education sectors. From 1995-2007, Gabriel worked for Prudential Financial, ultimately serving as senior vice president and head of Prudential Equity Group (PEG) Washington Research. He joined Prudential in February 1995, twelve years after entering the field as a partner in The Washington Forum, a division of the former Drexel Burnham Lambert. He was cited on the Institutional Investor All- American Team every year between 1994 and 2006, and has been a frequent guest on business-related television shows.

Catherine Wood
ARK Investment Management

Having completed twelve years at AllianceBernstein, Catherine founded ARK Investment Management in January 2014. At AllianceBernstein, she was Chief Investment Officer of Global Thematic Strategies, with $5 billion in assets under management and superior long term investment returns. Catherine joined Alliance Capital from Tupelo Capital Management, a hedge fund she co-founded which, in 2000, managed $800 million in global thematic strategies. Prior to her tenure at Tupelo Capital, she worked for 18 years with Jennison Associates as Chief Economist, Equity Research Analyst, Portfolio Manager and Director. Cathie started her career in Los Angeles at The Capital Group as an Assistant Economist. Catherine received her B.S., summa cum laude, in Finance and Economics from the University of Southern California in 1981.

jamesallenJames C. Allen, CFA
CFA Institute

Mr. Allen is head of the Capital Markets Policy Group in the Americas at CFA Institute where he is responsible for developing and promoting capital markets positions and policies within the region. He also leads the organization’s capital markets outreach with policymakers and regulators in Washington D.C. He worked as staff liaison to the CFA Institute Capital Markets Policy Council from its founding in 2005 to 2014, and prior to that with the former European Advocacy Committee.

Before joining CFA Institute in 2002, Mr. Allen worked as an independent researcher on projects looking at the global payments and settlement sector, and small business banking. He managed the editorial aspect of four publications at SNL Financial from 1996 to 2000 and prior to that covered derivatives and asset-backed securities as a staff reporter for the American Banker.

Mr. Allen holds an MA in journalism and mass communications from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a BBA in finance from the University of Texas at Austin.

Membership will be verified after registration.  Members of other CFA Societies within Texas may register as Members.  Please indicate your Texas Society affiliation on the registration page.


Valet parking will be hosted by CFA Society Austin.

Your choice of valet or self-parking. Valet parking is available at the hotel entrance and self parking is available in the garage. The garage is located to the right of the driveway.
